MAT ARMSTRONG’S £1.7 MILLION YACHT EXPOSED? 🚨 What is his non-running luxury yacht CAPRI actually worth? In this YouTube Short, we examine the original Italian paperwork, the 1991 price, and an astonishing comparison with another Cantieri Navali Liguri Ghibli 22 advertised for just €275,000!
Mat Armstrong’s latest restoration project is not a Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche or damaged supercar. It’s a classic Italian luxury motor yacht. His headline describes a “£1.7M luxury yacht”, but is that a realistic description of its CURRENT market value, or a reference to a historic figure? Let’s look at the evidence.
💷 THE £1.7 MILLION YACHT CLAIM
Mat’s yacht is called CAPRI, a 1991 Cantieri Navali Liguri Ghibli 22. A yacht’s original price, current asking price and actual selling price are very different things.
In Mat Armstrong’s video, original Italian paperwork appears on screen. Look carefully: the figures are denominated in Italian lire, NOT British pounds. The document appears to show a total expressed in lire, possibly using thousands as the unit. Interpreted as approximately 1.8 billion Italian lire, that suggests a historical figure well below £1.7 million at the period exchange rate.
Our video uses an illustrative estimate of around £780,000 in 1991. The precise historic sterling equivalent depends on the original document’s units, date and exchange rate. This invoice is not proof of what Mat paid for CAPRI, and we are not presenting it as a modern valuation.
🛥️ MEET EFFE EMME — THE SAME YACHT MODEL
Now for the comparison that makes this investigation interesting. Another 1991 Cantieri Navali Liguri Ghibli 22, named EFFE EMME, is advertised for sale in Montenegro by The Yacht Sales Co.
✅ Advertised asking price: €275,000
✅ Approximate comparison used in our video: £232,000
✅ Model: Cantieri Navali Liguri Ghibli 22
✅ Year: 1991
✅ Location: Montenegro
✅ Broker: The Yacht Sales Co
✅ Major refurbishment completed in 2014
✅ Twin MTU diesel engines, described by the broker as rebuilt
According to the sales listing, Effe Emme underwent an extensive refit lasting almost five years. Work included teak decking, a new galley and appliances, upgraded stainless steel and replacement electrical systems. The broker describes the yacht as being in excellent condition. That makes it a useful comparison with a non-running restoration project.

The yacht has appeared in sales marketing dating back to 2024. That suggests a long marketing history, although it does not prove uninterrupted availability or that the current €275,000 price applied throughout. And remember: an asking price is NOT a confirmed selling price.
⚓ WHAT IS MAT ARMSTRONG’S CAPRI REALLY WORTH?
This is the question at the heart of the Short. If a significantly refurbished example of the same model is advertised for €275,000, how should we assess Mat’s older, non-running yacht, with all the uncertainty of repairs, engines, timber structure and marine systems?
A full marine survey would be essential. Wooden yachts can require expensive structural work, specialist trades, mechanical overhaul, new equipment, mooring fees and ongoing maintenance. Depending on their condition, restoration costs can exceed a vessel’s eventual resale value. A dramatic “£1.7 million yacht” headline tells us very little about what the boat is worth TODAY.
We’re not claiming Mat Armstrong lied, and we don’t know what he actually paid. He may have been referring to an original or historic valuation. The purpose of this video is to separate the attention-grabbing headline from the evidence available to viewers.
💬 LET’S HEAR YOUR VERDICT
Would you buy a non-running 1991 Ghibli 22 as a restoration project? What would you offer for CAPRI? Is the refurbished Effe Emme the better deal? And how much money could it take to restore Mat Armstrong’s yacht to a comparable standard?
Comment your estimate below. Tell us what you think about the 1991 Italian lire paperwork, the yacht market comparison and the £1.7 million claim. Marine professionals: your insight is welcome.
