A growing number of people are searching online for private jets after recent reports highlighted how aircraft can now be browsed and purchased through dedicated aviation marketplaces, much like luxury cars or real estate. Hundreds of business jets are currently listed for sale on global platforms, allowing buyers to compare prices, specifications, flight hours, and maintenance records from anywhere in the world.
However, the biggest surprise for many first-time buyers is the price. While social media often claims that “cheap” private jets are available online, industry listings show that even older pre-owned aircraft usually cost between $1 million and $2 million (roughly ₹8.5 crore to ₹17 crore). Newer light business jets generally start above $3 million, while long-range luxury aircraft can cost anywhere from $30 million to well over $80 million.
Experts say the purchase price is only the beginning. Owners must also budget for pilot salaries, maintenance, insurance, hangar fees, fuel, inspections, and regulatory compliance. These annual operating expenses can run into hundreds of thousands of dollars, making private jet ownership practical only for ultra-high-net-worth individuals or corporations.
The story has generated widespread discussion online, with many people expressing surprise that private jets can now be bought through online marketplaces while others were shocked to learn that even the least expensive aircraft remain far beyond the reach of ordinary buyers.
