U.S. luxury-vehicle sales in the third quarter of 2026 showed a market increasingly divided between strong electrified offerings and brands dealing with softer demand. BMW remained one of the segment’s strongest traditional luxury players, helped by continued demand for its X-series SUVs and core sedans. Mercedes-Benz and Lexus also remained major contenders, with Lexus benefiting from a broad lineup of hybrid crossovers and SUVs.
Cadillac continued gaining attention from its expanding electric lineup, including the Lyriq, Optiq, Vistiq and Escalade IQ, while its gasoline-powered Escalade remained an important high-margin model. Acura and Infiniti faced tougher conditions as they competed against increasingly aggressive German, Japanese and Korean rivals. Genesis, meanwhile, continued establishing itself as a credible premium alternative, particularly with the GV70 and GV80.
Tesla remained a major factor in the premium market, although increased EV competition has made the luxury electric segment considerably more crowded. Rivian also contributed meaningful volume at the higher end of the EV market.
Overall, Q3 highlighted the continuing shift toward luxury SUVs, hybrids and EVs. Buyers are increasingly prioritizing electrified powertrains, technology and upscale crossovers, while traditional luxury sedans represent a smaller portion of the U.S. premium market than they once did.
