The Old Millhouse has a contemporary, luxurious finish while using original raw materials such as stone and wood to echo its heritage.
The mix of antiques and new design reflects this balance: there is a traditional, country-house feel, but also WiFi throughout, a Sonos music system and power showers in all the bathrooms. Owner Sally de Waard has lovingly hand-picked every element of the house interior, from the superb textiles and rugs to paintings and ceramics: her elegant style fuses a classic British look with a hint of the colonial and Far East, and it’s one of the things that makes The Old Millhouse so special.
The ground floor is where the magnificent sun room is located: with glass on three sides it’s the ideal place to enjoy the stunning garden view. The impressive fireplace, sofas you can sink into, and a dining table seating ten make this the hub of the house.
A sleek and professional-standard kitchen with breakfast bar has all the appliances you’d expect. A cosy den with its own bar is the perfect hideaway for enjoying a dram, while upstairs a beautiful drawing room with working fireplace and cleverly hidden wall-mounted TV is a lovely place to relax and watch a movie or the big match, with its window seats and sumptuous fabrics including Indian silks and linens.
